The wide distribution of digital technologies and communication channels in various spheres of economic activity and public life is transforming existing business processes and giving rise to a phenomenon called digitalization. This process naturally sets new challenges for management and creates opportunities for improving management efficiency. Management using the achievements of digitalization is called smart management. The positive effect is achieved by using the capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI), big data analysis technologies. Smart management creates opportunities for finding solutions to problems in those areas where previously it was impossible or difficult to achieve effective results. For example, when scaling customer service, customizing products in the consumer sector, monitoring the state of the market in real mode, when planning a strategy for promoting goods and services, identifying their competitive advantages. Smart management technologies reduce operational and transaction costs, time costs and allow solving management problems even when it becomes difficult with traditional approaches that require significant resources for these purposes. The article shows that the availability of digitalization achievements is growing as a result of the development and dissemination of information technologies. Technology companies and large commercial organizations are currently the main beneficiaries of digitalization, as they have access to financial resources to invest in the development and implementation of AI technology. For harmonious economic development, it is necessary to create conditions for access to the achievements of AI research, and for the development of digital competencies of managers, regardless of the organizations form and size as well as types of economic activity.
