Intellectual Capital Management: Risk-Driven Approach

Economic development today is a global competition of systems and institutions, taking place under turbulence conditions. Intellectual capital is one of the most important elements which composes the economic systems competitiveness at all levels. The intellectual capital influences capitalization of intangible resources. The aim of the issue is to identify opportunities and practical tools to increase its efficiency at the macro, meso- and macro levels, including a risk-oriented approach. The general scientific and special methods, such as content analysis method, system analysis method, retrospective analysis method, statistical survey methods were chosen and used as the scientific tools for this study. The research utilized analytical developments of the World Economic Forum, the World Intellectual Property Organization. The works of V. Avdiysky, V. Besenyzhny, G. Becker, E. Brooking, A. Gorts, B. Leontiev, L. Leontieva, O. Loseva, T. Stewart, etc. were used as the theoretical and methodological basis for the study. The basic definitions such as intellectual capital, methods of intellectual capital assessment, principles and approaches of risk management were the basis of the study. The results of the study allowed identifying risk factors affecting and intellectual capital usage and management. The integration of risk management helps to increase adaptability to the risks resulting from change. As an issue to be debated, the author identifies the need to increase the level of intangible resources usage. In our opinion this fact is a basis for improving the competitiveness of business structures and the national economy. The tools to increase the efficiency and application of intellectual capital at different levels of the national economy are presented as practical recommendations.
