University Development Trends in Knowledge Economy

The article analyzes the main trends in the development of universities in knowledge economy, including the massification of higher education: the development of e-learning models: the increase in domestic R&D costs: the increase of government support for applied R&D and the system of knowledge and technology transfer: increasing negative impact of national and international ratings on universities and regional economies development: changing the approach to the education of scientific personnel. It is concluded that the systems of higher education in many countries of the world are currently in a situation of strategic choice, the key parameters of which are described in this article.
