Ethnonational Policy and Situation in Russian Cultural and Linguistic Sphere in 1990-s

The article deals with the alterations in the sphere of ethnonational relations, cultural and linguistic policy of Russia under the influence of the reforms of 1990-s. It is noted that the consequences of this influence were deeply contradictory. Aimed at constructing a fundamentally new system of public relations, the national policy directly or indirectly contributed to the growth of interethnic tension, development of destructive phenomena in the spheres of culture and education. The aspiration of the state authority to escape from the sphere of public processes regulation contributed to the growth of regional and local nationalistic tendencies. The arisen ideological vacuum was headily filled with the foreign organizations which aims were inconsistent with the needs of the Russian state and the society. The lack of the unified state policy in the sphere of ethnnational relations became a source of a great deal for present problems in this sphere in the Russian Federation.
