Digital Economy as Neo-Economy Phenomenon: Evolution of Concepts

The purpose of this article is digital economy (DE) original concepts systemization — from “pioneering” ones, represented by D. Tapscott’s and N. Negroponte’s theoretical developments proposed in 1990s, followed by improved DE concepts by E. Brynjolfsson, B. Kahin, Ch. Karlsson (2000s), to recent theoretical developments proposed by Russian economists that can form fundamentals for management theories. The essence of digital economy as neo-economy phenomenon as well as the difference between the one and e-, web- and internet-economy (and their theoretical representations) are defined. First-ever foreign and national digital economy concepts systemization is accomplished by the author, specified institutional definition of the digital economy as well as an attempt of a holistic approach to its analysis form originality of research is presented in the article.
