Countering the Spreading of the Extremist Ideology in the Multiethnic Environment of the Rostov Region

The article is devoted to the problem of distribution of ideology of extremism on the territory of the Rostov region and the methods used by the regional authorities to counter it. The author examines the ethno-social situation in the region, identifying the major stress points, the system of authorities responsible for implementation of the state national policy and the policies concerning the Cossacks and countering the extremist ideology, highlights the major government programs and measures implemented by the authorities of the Don region. The spread of the extremist ideology in the region is tied to the activities of the banned organization “Islamic State” and the Ukrainian nationalist groups, in particular the “Right sector”. The study leads to the conclusion about intensification of the activities of extremist organizations in the Rostov region, which is associated with the unresolved crisis in the Donbas, the military operations of the Russian armed forces in Syria and the upcoming Football World Cup 2018.
