Self-development as a Method of Human Capital Development

The article is devoted to determining the place of employees’ self-development in the system of methods of human capital development and its role in the determination of labor behavior. A new approach, under which self-development of employees is viewed as an organizationally managed tool for training and developing personnel, is being developed. The most important characteristics and advantages of self-development in comparison with trainings, lectures, seminars, the institute of personnel reserve, coaching, mentoring, etc. are presented. The influence of employees’ self-development on their professional competence and motivation is revealed on the examples of Japan, the countries of Europe, the USA and Canada. Japanese methods of workers’ self-development are characterized.
