Administration of the Colonist Movement in Russia from the Second Half of the 18th Century to the 19th Century. Relevant Historiography

Historians first focused their attention on the issues of German colonists and the administration of the colonist movement in the second half of the 19th century. A.Klaus’ work Our Colonies. Records and Data on History and Statistics of Foreign Colonies, published in St. Petersburg in 1869, is the most representative on this matter. This work has illustrated the scale of this huge movement and made the issue relevant. It is necessary to analyze the main goals of the researchers who may study the new aspects of this matter on any stage of its historiographic development.After the collapse of the USSR and in recent times some new documents have been discovered and collected. These documents are the sources for the historiography of the Germans, which were recovered and published in a number of collections. The historians face the task of studying this body of sources, making generalizations, detailed analysis and forecast for future research.
