Improving the Network of Protected Areas to Restore Degraded Marine Ecosystems: Management Aspects

The article presents an attempt at developing a methodology and rationale for the allocation of specially protected nature reserve areas on the example of the Black, Azov and Caspian seas. It is shown that a scientific approach for establishing such areas includes a complex of measures, including landscape zoning and mapping and statistical analysis of the parameters of the main components of the underwater natural complexes (underwater landscapes) in determining their variability, stability and hydro-ecological status, taking into account the detection of degradation of underwater landscapes in the past 100 years.
