Reforming the System of Social and Economic Education in the Universities of the USSR on the Basis of a Standard Textbook: The Late 1930’s Experience

The paper analyzes the Soviet experience in organization of teaching history of the party on the basis of a standard textbook in the context of contemporary issues of reforming history education. On the basis of archival materials and memoirs of contemporaries the key issues and controversies of the late 1930’s are been identified. Some practical conclusions in relation to the modern process of creating a unified concept of teaching history are made. Most of the sources used in this work are introduced into scientific circulation for the first time.
