The article deals with the challenges to stability in Transdniestria in the framework of the large scale political crisis of 2014 in Ukraine that has been evolving into a civil war. Based on the analysis of main challenges and threats as well as on the expert opinions the author describes possible consequences of the crisis for regional military, political and economic security. Analysis proves that certain instability and tensions across the borders of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic are likely to begin and they will have a serious impact on regional stability. Much attention is drawn to the policy of Russia in the region. The author concludes that the “Russian factor” remains a key element in safeguarding regional stability, though there will be a considerable challenge to Russia’s influence in the region produced by other major geopolitical players.
