This article examines the socio-economic development of the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic as an unrecognized state. The main economic trends in the republic are presented on the basis of statistical data. The data provided in the article supports the idea that exports are of key economic importance to the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic. The author pays particular attention to the “economic blockade” of Transnistria by neighboring states, which is part of a policy of impediment of the independent development of a state that is not recognized by the international community. The author concludes that the concerted efforts of Moldova and Ukraine to limit Transnistrian exports could lead to a major socioeconomic crisis in Transnistria in the foreseeable future.

Keywords

Transnistria, economy, development, “economic blockade”.
