One of the key arguments against the recognition of new states formed after the collapse of the Soviet Union is their inconsistency, the lack of some basic features and attributes that are typical for other states. The article shows that one of these entities — the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic — has all the characteristics and attributes of an independent sovereign state. Moreover, according to opinion polls, a particular civic identity that distinguishes citizen of Transnistria from residents of Moldova and other neighboring countries was formed. The author emphasizes the need for correction of discourse on the absence in the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic of all the necessary features and attributes of a full-fledged independent state and to take this into consideration in the debate on the reintegration of Moldova in the boundaries of 1940–1990.

Keywords

Transnistrian Moldavian Republic, independence of state, unrecognized.
