The Position of Rector at the Moscow University of the 1920-s – 1930-s

The article shows the dynamics of development of the position of rector at the Moscow University in the 1920s – 1930s. In the first part the author analyzes the statutes and other legislative acts relating to higher education, describes a system of university management. Until 1920, the MSU acted on "General statutes of the Imperial Russian Universities" of 1884, then adopted a resolution "On the Provisional Presidency", in 1921 "Regulations on Higher Educational Institutions", a little enlarged in the next act of 1922, and in 1939 the first charter was approved specifically for the Moscow University. Analysis of these regulations includes the following parameters: inauguration, term election, duties, responsibility. In the second part of the article the author examines the specific administrative activities of the Moscow University rectors who have held their positions during this period.
