The Role of the Media in Forming an Electoral Choice of Russian Voters

The article analyzes theoretical and practical aspects of the research of electoral choice of Russian voters. The author considers two basic approaches, generated of modern social and political science. Supporters of the first approach assert that mass media has a decisive impact on the formation of political orientation of voters. Adherents of the second approach are convinced that the role of mass media in this process is minimal and its influence is defined by a number of factors. Using the sociological data gathered by the author, the article analyzes the influence of the mass-media on the electoral preferences of Russian voters. The results of study showed, that media has a significant, but not decisive impact on  the electoral choice of Russian voters.
