Painting “An Image of the Enemy”: Japan it the 1930s Soviet Propaganda

An image of the enemy is a political instrument used by the ruling elite to preserve and strengthen its power, and mobilize the human resources for a specific purpose. The article examines the main instruments of the Soviet propaganda using the formation of an image of Japan in the 1930s as an example. The negative image of Japan was created through press, movies, music and literature. This image was used by the government to concentrate the human resource on strengthening the eastern border and the far-east region of the country in general and raise the countries position on the international scene.
